Build a shared world-building bible

Characters, places, factions, items and the timeline, kept as facts everyone writes from. Before you write a scene, ask whether it clashes with canon.

An example

@ADoor New character: Captain Ilse Varga, 41, smuggler turned harbor master in Saltmere. Lost her left eye in the Reed War. Ally of the Tide Guild.

What you can ask later

  • “Who lives in Saltmere?”
  • “Does Ilse’s backstory clash with the Reed War dates?”
  • “Which characters haven’t appeared since chapter 10?”
  • “List every item the Tide Guild owns.”

Who can see what

  • The writing team adds and edits characters and places.
  • The lead writer is the only one who can edit the Timeline, so canon dates stay put.
  • A freelance artist can read the descriptions of the characters they draw, without spoilers in the Secrets field.

How it compares with World Anvil or a wiki

World Anvil and wikis are better for rich pages with maps, images and links you browse.

Checking facts is what ADoor is good at here. Every character and place has fields your assistant can compare, and access by field keeps spoilers from people who shouldn’t see them.

How to start

  1. Open an assistant like ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Cursor and connect ADoor through MCP.
  2. Tell it: “Keep our story world: Characters, Places, Factions, Items and Timeline, linked to each other. Invite the writers.”
  3. Keep the Timeline editable by the lead writer only.

Questions people ask

Can it check continuity?

Your assistant can compare a new scene with the facts in your lists and point out clashes.

Can I hide spoilers?

Yes. Keep them in a field only some people can read.

Do I have to pay?

Not on the free plan, which holds 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage and no per-GB charges.

Which assistants can I use?

Any of ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Cursor, connected through MCP. Each one asks for your approval, and you decide which lists it can use.
