Start a neighborhood tool-lending list
What neighbors are happy to lend, who has it now and when it’s due back. Before you buy a tile cutter, ask whether someone on the street already has one.
An example
@ADoor I can lend out my hedge trimmer and the long ladder. And I just borrowed Peter's pressure washer, back on Sunday.
ADoor Added 2 entries to Tools and 1 to Loans
What you can ask later
- “Does anyone have a tile cutter?”
- “What have I lent out that isn’t back?”
- “What’s overdue?”
- “Who has borrowed the most this year?”
Who can see what
- Neighbors add their own items (one grant per person) and record loans, from their own assistants.
- Each owner can be limited to editing the items where Owner is their name.
- Addresses and phone numbers stay in a field only the organizer reads.
How it compares with a Facebook group or a sharing app
A neighborhood Facebook group or Nextdoor is better at reaching everyone, including people who will never sign up for anything.
The list itself is what ADoor keeps: what’s available, who has it and what’s overdue, answered in a second.
How to start
- Sign in to ADoor and connect an assistant like ChatGPT. Claude, Grok and Cursor connect the same way, through MCP.
- Tell it: “Set up a tool-lending list for our street: Tools (item, owner, status) and Loans (item, borrower, out, back). Invite my neighbors.”
- Let each person edit only the items where Owner is their name, and keep phone numbers to the organizer.
Questions people ask
Can people outside the street join?
Only the people you invite.
Can it handle deposits?
Add a deposit field. Payments happen outside ADoor.
What does it cost?
Nothing on the free plan, which holds 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage and no per-GB charges.
Can I export everything?
Yes, as CSV or JSON, whenever you want. Ask your assistant for the export or download it yourself.
