ADoor vs Google Sheets

Google Sheets is a spreadsheet in your browser that you share by file, with formulas, charts and comments. ADoor, your data account, keeps the records a team works from in one place, and people, apps and assistants like ChatGPT each get their own access to them.

Where ADoor stands out

Lists that stay in shape

When an assistant like ChatGPT adds a renewal date to every deal in ADoor, it becomes a field on the Deals list, so every entry has one. Underneath it's standard SQL, so you can join and count without formulas.

Access below the file

Sheets shares a file as viewer, commenter or editor, and can protect ranges from edits. In ADoor, sales can edit Deals while the Salary field stays hidden, and a script can add entries but never delete them.

Built for assistants and apps

ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect to ADoor with a sign-in, and apps use an API with their own keys. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it, and it asks when it needs more.

ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.
Apps and scripts
An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use
Access
Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.
Approvals
Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.
CI jobs
GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.
Revoking
Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.
History
A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after
Underneath
Standard Postgres

Which one should you use?

Use Google Sheets when

you need to calculate, model or chart something, or share a quick list with anyone who has a Google account.

  • Formulas and charts. Budgets, forecasts and one-off analysis belong in a spreadsheet.
  • Everyone already has it. Share a link and people can edit straight away.
  • Free-form layout. Notes, merged cells and side calculations next to the data.

Use ADoor when

the spreadsheet has become something your company runs on, and you want SQL, real permissions and a change history instead of one shared link.

Technical

  • Your billing service appends every invoice event through the API with an add-only key. Finance queries the month in SQL, and no one can overwrite a past row by accident.
  • A Claude agent triages new leads in production. It can add and tag entries but can't delete them, and it can't reach anything you didn't give the person who connected it.

Personal

  • A job search: every application, contact and follow-up date. Ask ChatGPT on your phone which companies you haven't heard back from in two weeks.
  • Freelance invoices and who has paid. Your accountant sees amounts and dates, and nothing else in your space.

Team

  • An incident log across teams, where each team edits only the entries with its name and everyone reads the rest.
  • A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after, including assistants.

Business

  • A client list where your assistant adds contacts, a collaborator reads the projects, and only you see the Rate field. A shared spreadsheet shows every column to everyone with access.
  • When an agency's contract ends, you revoke its access, and every entry it added stays.

Questions people ask

Can I move a sheet into ADoor?

Yes. Download it as CSV, attach it in ChatGPT and ask it to add what's inside.

Does ADoor sync with Google Sheets?

No. ADoor doesn't sync with other services. You can download anything you can see as CSV or JSON.

Can I still use formulas?

ADoor has no formulas. Ask an assistant, or run a SQL query through the API, for totals and counts.
