ADoor vs PlanetScale
PlanetScale runs managed Postgres and Vitess databases for production workloads, from a single node to sharded clusters on local NVMe. ADoor is the data account where a company keeps the records its people, apps and assistants like ChatGPT share, each with its own access, with standard Postgres underneath.
Where ADoor stands out
Access below the database
PlanetScale's hosted MCP server reaches your organizations, databases, branches, schema, Insights data and the organization payment method. In ADoor, an assistant can get one list, without one field, and never more than the person who connected it.
Nothing to provision
A PlanetScale database starts at $5 a month for one node, or $30 for three nodes across zones. In ADoor you describe what to keep in an assistant like ChatGPT, and the list is ready to query in SQL.
Approvals for agents and devices
When an agent in ADoor needs more access, it asks and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it.
The products
PlanetScale
PlanetScale offers managed Postgres and Vitess (MySQL-compatible) databases, with branching and Metal NVMe storage.
- Assistants
- A hosted MCP server with OAuth, plus an Insights-only server without query execution
- CI
- Service tokens for CI and headless clients
- Credentials
- Each MCP query uses short-lived, ephemeral credentials
- Plans
- Postgres from $5 a month for a single node; Metal from $50
ADoor
ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.
- Assistants
- ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.
- Apps and scripts
- An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use
- Access
- Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.
- Approvals
- Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.
- CI jobs
- GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.
- Revoking
- Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.
- History
- A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after
- Underneath
- Standard Postgres
- Plans
- Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

Which one should you use?
Use PlanetScale when
you're running a production application that needs a database engineers tune, branch and scale.
- Scale and performance. Metal NVMe storage, replicas and Vitess sharding. ADoor isn't a place to run your app's own data layer.
- Branching. Database branches for schema changes.
- Insights. Query Insights and schema recommendations, also over MCP.
Use ADoor when
the people and assistants around the product need shared records, each limited to its part, without opening the production database.
Technical
- Your API writes each enterprise customer's usage overages to an add-only list. Finance reads it in SQL, and nobody touches the production database.
- An on-call agent reads the Incidents list and adds timeline entries. It can't delete, and it asks before reaching Customers.
Personal
- Glasses and contact lens prescriptions for the whole family, with renewal dates. The optician's reminders go to ChatGPT, and you ask it who's due.
- Your camera gear with serial numbers, for insurance and if something goes missing on a trip.
Team
- Engineering, support and sales share an Outages list. Support reads, engineers edit, and the status bot adds but never deletes.
- A history of changes shows who edited each customer note and what it said before.
Business
- Customer success sees every account's health; partners see only the accounts they manage.
- A penetration-testing firm gets add-only access to Findings for two weeks, then you revoke it.
