ADoor vs a Markdown file
A Markdown file is often enough. Claude Code reads CLAUDE.md at the start of every session, and other coding agents read files like AGENTS.md. ADoor is for the data that outgrows a file: rows you query, share with people and reach from ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor at once.
When a file is enough
- Instructions for a coding agent. Build commands, conventions and project layout belong in CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md, next to the code.
- One person, one machine. A file in your repo, or in a notes app, is quick to edit and easy to read.
- Short. Anthropic suggests keeping a CLAUDE.md under 200 lines, because longer files use more context and are followed less closely.
When you need ADoor
- Queries. "Open bugs Sam reported this week" is one SQL query in ADoor. In a file, an agent rereads the whole thing.
- More than one assistant. ChatGPT on your phone can't read a file on your laptop. Every assistant you connect to ADoor reads the same tables.
- Sharing. Share one list with one person, view only, or a space with your team.
- Who changed what. ADoor records who made each row change and what it replaced, and you can undo it. A file shows the latest text, unless you commit every change to git.
- Limits per tool. Each assistant gets its own access, down to a space, a table, specific fields, or just the entries that match a value you choose.
Side by side
| Topic | ADoor | A Markdown or CLAUDE.md file |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Lists and tables several assistants, apps and people use | Instructions and notes for one agent or one person |
| Reach | ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor over MCP, apps over the API | The tools that can read that file. Claude Code's auto memory is machine-local. |
| Structure | Tables with fields, on real Postgres | Free text |
| Queries | SQL, or ask in plain words | The agent reads the file |
| Sharing | Per list or space, or just the entries that match a value you choose (for example, one grant per client), as viewer, editor or owner | Whoever has the file, for example through git |
| History and undo | Every row change, with who made it and undo | git, if you commit |
| Access per assistant | Its own access, which you can revoke | Any agent that can read the file can read all of it |
| Cost | Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace. | Free |
Use both
Keep your coding conventions in CLAUDE.md. Keep the bug list, the client list and the launch checklist in ADoor, and add one line to CLAUDE.md telling the agent where they live.
Questions people ask
Isn't ADoor just a memory tool with extra steps?
No. ADoor doesn't pull memories out of your chats. It holds tables your assistants read and write when you ask, and you can see, query and export every row.
Can Claude Code use ADoor?
Yes. Run claude mcp add --transport http adoor https://app.adoor.halmoslabs.com/mcp and sign in. See Connect.
Can I export my tables to Markdown?
Export any list to CSV or JSON, and turn that into whatever you like.
