ADoor vs Xata
Xata is a Postgres platform built around copy-on-write branches, so every pull request, agent or CI run can get its own copy. ADoor is the data account where a company keeps the records its people, apps and assistants like ChatGPT share, with access per field and entry.
Where ADoor stands out
Access to a list, not a branch
Xata gives each workflow an isolated branch of the database. ADoor gives each assistant, app or job its own access to the same records, down to specific fields, or just the entries that match a value you choose.
Nothing to size
Xata instances start at $0.012 an hour. ADoor is free for 3 tables and 100 rows, and Pro is $10 a month per workspace.
Approvals
In ADoor, agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it.
The products
Xata
Xata runs upstream Postgres with instant branches, scale-to-zero and copy-on-write storage, as SaaS, BYOC or open source.
- Assistants
- A hosted MCP server at api.xata.tech/mcp
- Branches
- Copy-on-write branches that wake on first query
- Plans
- Instances from $0.012 an hour; open source to self-host
ADoor
ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.
- Assistants
- ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.
- Apps and scripts
- An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use
- Access
- Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.
- Approvals
- Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.
- CI jobs
- GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.
- Revoking
- Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.
- History
- A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after
- Underneath
- Standard Postgres
- Plans
- Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

Which one should you use?
Use Xata when
engineers need realistic database copies for every pull request, test run or coding agent.
- Branches per PR. Clone a Postgres database in seconds without copying it all. ADoor has no branches.
- Scale to zero. Idle branches hibernate and wake on the first query.
- Your cloud. Run it as BYOC or open source.
Use ADoor when
you want one shared set of records that people and agents change safely, rather than a copy each.
Technical
- Your coding agents test against Xata branches, while the release log they write lives in ADoor with add-only access.
- A support bot in production reads the Known issues list and asks before it can reach anything else.
Personal
- Your baby's feeds, naps and nappies, shared with your partner. You both log from your phones through ChatGPT.
- Board games you own and who's borrowed which. Friends see the list but can't change it.
Team
- QA, engineering and product share a Test results list, where QA adds and engineers edit status.
- A history of changes shows who marked each test as passing and what it said before.
Business
- Sales sees deals; only finance sees Margin in the same list.
- An offshore QA vendor adds results for a quarter, and you revoke it when the contract ends.
