ADoor vs CockroachDB Cloud

CockroachDB Cloud is a distributed, Postgres-compatible SQL database built to survive failures. ADoor, your data account, keeps the records a company shares across people, apps and assistants like ChatGPT, each with its own access.

Where ADoor stands out

Access to one list, not a cluster

CockroachDB's MCP server can be limited to one cluster, and is read-only by default. ADoor narrows further: one list, without one field, with adding, editing and deleting separate.

Capped at the person who connected it

In ADoor, an assistant never gets more than the person who connected it, and it asks before reaching anything new.

No usage meter

CockroachDB Basic charges $0.20 per million request units and $0.50 per GiB. ADoor's pricing is based on storage only.

The products

CockroachDB Cloud

CockroachDB Cloud offers Basic, Standard and Advanced plans of distributed SQL.

Assistants
A managed MCP server, read-only by default
Access
OAuth or API key, optionally scoped to one cluster
Plans
Basic is usage-based, with $15 of free usage a month on pay-as-you-go.

ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.
Apps and scripts
An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use
Access
Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.
Approvals
Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.
CI jobs
GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.
Revoking
Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.
History
A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after
Underneath
Standard Postgres
Plans
Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

Which one should you use?

Use CockroachDB Cloud when

your application needs a database that keeps running across zones and regions.

  • Resilience. Distributed SQL designed to survive failures.
  • Scale. Plans up to Advanced for the highest availability.
  • Change data capture. Stream changes to systems like Kafka.

Use ADoor when

people and assistants need shared records with field-level access, without a cluster.

Technical

  • Your payments platform writes chargebacks to an add-only list, and the risk team queries it in SQL without database credentials.
  • A GitHub Actions job logs each failover drill with 15 minutes of access.

Personal

  • Doctor and dentist appointments for the family, with who's taking whom. Your partner edits, the kids read.
  • Bike serial numbers, models and where each was bought, ready if one is stolen.

Team

  • SRE, support and account managers share a Maintenance windows list. SRE edits, others read.
  • A history of changes shows who moved each window and when it was before.
  • Support reads a Regions list that platform engineers edit, with a history of changes.

Business

  • Regional teams edit only the entries for their region in a company-wide Capacity plan; leadership reads all.
  • A managed services partner gets read access during an incident and is revoked afterwards.

Questions people ask

Does ADoor run across regions?
