ADoor vs Convex
Convex is a backend for developers: a reactive database with server functions, file storage and search, written in TypeScript. ADoor is the data account where a team or a person keeps records that people, apps and assistants like ChatGPT share, with access set per field and entry, and no code.
Where ADoor stands out
Access without writing functions
In Convex, who can read or write is decided in the functions you write. In ADoor, access per space, list or field, or to the entries that match a value you choose is set for each person, app and assistant, and an assistant never exceeds the person who connected it.
A hosted MCP server
Convex's MCP server runs locally through the Convex CLI. ADoor's is hosted, with an OAuth sign-in for ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor.
A history of changes
ADoor keeps a history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after. Convex's audit log is on paid plans.
The products
Convex
Convex combines a reactive database, server functions, file storage and search for app developers.
- Assistants
- A local MCP server started with npx convex mcp start
- Change history
- Audit log on Professional and above
- Plans
- Free & Starter at $0 with 1M function calls, then pay as you go. Professional is $25 per developer a month.
ADoor
ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.
- Assistants
- ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.
- Apps and scripts
- An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use
- Access
- Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.
- Approvals
- Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.
- CI jobs
- GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.
- Revoking
- Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.
- History
- A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after
- Underneath
- Standard Postgres
- Plans
- Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

Which one should you use?
Use Convex when
you're building an app and want a reactive backend where queries update live, written in TypeScript.
- Real-time apps. Queries stay up to date as data changes. ADoor doesn't push updates.
- A full backend. Functions, file storage and search in one place. ADoor has no file storage.
- Your own users. Authentication with 80+ OAuth integrations. Login with ADoor is coming soon, for signing in your app's users.
Use ADoor when
the records are for your team and its assistants, not for an app you're shipping.
Technical
- A Convex app writes its admin actions to an add-only Audit list in ADoor, so support can read them without backend access.
- A Claude agent that answers sales questions reads Pricing and Plans, and asks before reaching anything else.
Personal
- What's in the freezer and when it went in. You ask ChatGPT what to cook before it goes off.
- A symptom diary before a specialist appointment, which you share read-only with the doctor.
Team
- Design, engineering and support share a Bugs list with separate add, edit and delete.
- New laptops sign in only after you approve them.
Business
- Each country manager edits their own market (one grant per person) in a company-wide Launch list.
- A localisation agency edits Translations only, and you revoke it when the project ends.
