ADoor vs Box

Box is enterprise content management: storing, sharing and governing documents. ADoor, your data account, keeps records instead of files, which people, apps and assistants like ChatGPT read and change with their own access.

Where ADoor stands out

Narrower than a folder

Box collaborator roles apply to folders, and a single file supports only Editor and Viewer. In ADoor, access is set per list or field, or to the entries that match a value you choose.

Separate add, edit and delete

Box roles bundle actions, from Uploader to Co-owner. In ADoor, reading, adding, editing and deleting are separate permissions.

A history of changes

Box Business keeps 50 versions of a file. ADoor keeps a history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after.

ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.
Apps and scripts
An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use
Access
Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.
Approvals
Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.
CI jobs
GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.
Revoking
Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.

Which one should you use?

Use Box when

you manage contracts, documents and files across a large company with governance around them.

  • Documents. Store and govern any file. ADoor has no file storage.
  • Folder roles. Seven collaborator roles for folders.
  • Unlimited storage. Business includes unlimited storage.

Use ADoor when

the documents have records attached, and people and assistants need exactly their part of them.

Technical

  • A contract-signing webhook adds each signed agreement's terms to an add-only list, which legal queries in SQL.
  • A GitHub Actions job records each compliance check with 15 minutes of access.
  • A Cursor agent reads a Templates list with owners and review dates, and can't edit it.

Personal

  • Settling a parent's estate: accounts to close, who's handling each and what's done. Each sibling edits the items with their name.
  • Buying a house: viewings, offers, the solicitor's contacts and deadlines, shared with your partner.

Team

  • Legal, sales and procurement share a Contract obligations list with separate edit rights.
  • A history of changes shows who changed each obligation and what it was before.

Business

  • Each business unit sees only the contracts with its name (one grant per unit) in a company-wide register, and only legal sees Liability cap.
  • An outside counsel's access ends when you revoke it, and its notes stay.
  • A construction firm keeps site inspections in one list; each site manager edits their own site.
