# Start a budget tracker

Say what you spent, and ADoor, your data account, files it under a category. At the end of the month, ask your assistant where the money went and how that compares with your budget.

## An example

**You:** Spent 64 on groceries at Lidl, 12 on lunch, and paid the 49 gym fee.

**ADoor:** Added 3 entries to Spending

**Spending**

| Date | Amount | Category | Note |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Oct 20 | 64.00 | Groceries | Lidl |
| Oct 20 | 12.00 | Eating out | Lunch |
| Oct 20 | 49.00 | Health | Gym |

## What you can ask later

- “How much have I spent on eating out this month, against my budget?”
- “What were my five biggest expenses in September?”
- “Which categories went over budget this quarter?”
- “How much do I spend on groceries in an average week?”
- “Chart my spending by category for the last six months.”

## Who can see what

- **Only you** by default. The assistants you connect see the same numbers you do, and no more.
- **Your partner** can add shared expenses from their own assistant into Spending, and read the totals, while your personal notes field stays private.
- **An accountant** can get read access to the Business category only at tax time, removed when they’re done.

## How it compares with YNAB or a budgeting app

YNAB and Monarch win at importing transactions straight from your bank and at envelope-style budgeting with rules. ADoor has no bank connection.

Pick ADoor if you’d rather set your own categories and ask questions in plain words. Download a CSV from your bank and hand it to your assistant, or mention purchases as you go. If you ever leave, everything comes out as CSV or JSON.

## How to start

1. Sign in to ADoor, then add it to an assistant like ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Cursor through MCP.
2. Tell it: “Keep a budget for me: a Spending list with date, amount, category and note, and a Budgets list with a monthly amount per category.”
3. Each payday, ask how last month went and set next month’s amounts.

## Questions people ask

### Can it import my bank statement?

Yes. Download a CSV from your bank, attach it in your assistant and ask it to add the entries and pick categories.

### Does ADoor connect to my bank?

No. You bring the data in by telling your assistant or attaching a file.

### Is ADoor free?

Yes. The free plan holds 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage and no per-GB charges.

### Does it work with Claude and Grok too?

Yes. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor all connect through MCP with a sign-in, and each gets its own access that you can narrow or remove later.
