# Workspaces

A workspace is the account a person or team keeps spaces, lists, and tables in. People belong to a workspace. The website, the API, the CLI, and MCP all use the workspace you have selected. [Plans](/docs/concepts/plans/) describe what the free plan and Pro include.

## Address

A page in the app names the workspace by its short name: `#/w/halmos-labs/spaces/crm/tables/crm_contacts`. The same place accepts the workspace id and then shows the short name. A link without a workspace opens the workspace you already have open, and the address is updated. If you cannot use that workspace, the page says “This workspace isn’t available.” An access request, credential, or invitation opens the workspace that owns it when you can use that workspace. A device sign-in link is completed in the workspace open in the browser.

## Presets

Viewer, editor, and owner are presets. A viewer can read ordinary tables. An editor can read and change data. An owner can do that and administer the workspace. A custom [grant](/docs/concepts/grants/) can be narrower than a preset.
