# ADoor vs Upstash

Upstash runs serverless Redis, vector search, queues and workflows for developers. ADoor, your data account, keeps structured records a team or a company shares with apps and assistants like ChatGPT, each with its own access.

## Where ADoor stands out

### Fields and entries

Upstash Redis stores keys and values. ADoor keeps lists with fields, and access can be set per field, or to the entries that match a value you choose.

### Access per assistant

Upstash's MCP server signs in with OAuth, or a developer API key for headless use. In ADoor, each assistant gets its own access, capped at the person who connected it.

### SQL

ADoor runs on Postgres, so lists can be queried in standard SQL.

## The products

### Upstash

Upstash offers serverless Redis, Vector, QStash and Workflow.

Assistants
: A hosted MCP server at mcp.upstash.com/mcp

Plans
: Free with 250 MB and 500K commands a month. Pay as you go at $0.20 per 100K commands.

### ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
: ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.

Apps and scripts
: An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use

Access
: Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.

Approvals
: Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.

CI jobs
: GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.

Revoking
: Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.

History
: A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after

Underneath
: Standard Postgres

Plans
: Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

## Which one should you use?

### Use Upstash when

you need a fast cache, rate limiter or queue for an application.

- **Speed.** Sub-millisecond reads in the same region.
- **Queues and workflows.** QStash and Workflow for background jobs.
- **Serverless pricing.** Pay per command.

### Use ADoor when

the data is records people and assistants work with, not a cache.

**Technical**
- Your service caches in Upstash and writes each fraud flag to an add-only ADoor list that analysts query in SQL.
- An agent that handles refunds edits only the Status field in Refunds.
- A Cursor agent reads a Rate limits list your team keeps, and asks before it edits a value.

**Personal**
- Airline, hotel and loyalty numbers for the family. You ask ChatGPT at check-in for your partner's number.
- Your weekly workouts: lifts, weights and reps. You ask Claude whether you've progressed this month.

**Team**
- Platform, support and security share a Blocked accounts list with separate add and delete.
- A history of changes shows who unblocked each account and when.
- Support and engineering share a Customer limits list, and only engineering edits Limit.

**Business**
- Each region edits only the entries with its name in a company-wide Rate cards list; only finance sees Cost.
- A fraud vendor adds signals to one list, and you revoke it when the trial ends.
- A franchise keeps each location's opening hours in one list, and each manager edits only their location.
