# ADoor vs Linear

Linear tracks issues and plans products for software teams, with a hosted MCP server. ADoor, your data account, keeps records that aren't issues, such as customers, releases, inventory or anything you describe, which people and assistants share with access per field and entry.

## Where ADoor stands out

### Narrower than read and write

Linear's MCP has a read-only endpoint. ADoor separates reading, adding, editing and deleting, per list or field, or to the entries that match a value you choose.

### Records that aren't issues

In ADoor an assistant like ChatGPT creates a list with the fields you describe, and you query it in SQL.

### Short-lived CI access

A GitHub Actions job gets ADoor access for 15 minutes by default, with no stored secret.

## The products

### Linear

Linear is issue tracking and planning for software teams, with private teams and admin roles.

Assistants
: A hosted MCP server at mcp.linear.app/mcp with OAuth 2.1, an API key, or a read-only endpoint

Plans
: Free with 2 teams and 250 issues. Basic is $10 per user a month billed yearly.

### ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
: ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.

Apps and scripts
: An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use

Access
: Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.

Approvals
: Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.

CI jobs
: GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.

Revoking
: Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.

History
: A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after

Underneath
: Standard Postgres

Plans
: Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

## Which one should you use?

### Use Linear when

you're tracking issues, projects and cycles for a software team.

- **Issue tracking.** Linear is built for it.
- **Planning.** Projects and cycles for product teams.
- **A read-only MCP.** Give an assistant read-only access to issues.

### Use ADoor when

your team also tracks records that aren't issues, and each assistant should reach exactly its part.

**Technical**
- A GitHub Actions job writes each release, with version and changes, to a Releases list with 15 minutes of access.
- A Cursor agent reads Feature flags and can edit only Enabled.
- An on-call bot adds each incident with service and duration to an add-only list, and you count them per quarter in SQL.

**Personal**
- A learning plan: courses, hours spent and what's next. You ask Claude what to study this week.
- A home projects backlog with estimated cost, which your partner edits too.

**Team**
- Support adds customer bug reports to an add-only list, and engineering reads them.
- A history of changes shows who changed each customer's plan.
- Design and engineering share a Components list, and design edits only Status.

**Business**
- Customer success sees accounts; only finance sees Contract value.
- An outside QA firm adds test results to one list, and you revoke it when the contract ends.
- A SaaS company's sales assistant reads Plans and limits but never Discounts.
