# ADoor vs iCloud Drive

iCloud Drive keeps files, photos and backups in sync across Apple devices, with 5 GB free. ADoor, your data account, keeps records that you, the people you choose and assistants like ChatGPT read and change, on any device.

## Where ADoor stands out

### Any assistant, any device

We couldn't find an official MCP server for iCloud Drive. ADoor's MCP server works in ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor, on a phone or a laptop.

### Share one field, not a folder

In ADoor you can share a list without one field, or let someone add entries but not delete them.

### Approved devices

In ADoor, a new device signs in only after you approve it and choose what it can reach.

## The products

### iCloud Drive

iCloud stores files, photos and backups for Apple devices, with iCloud+ for more space.

Plans
: 5 GB free. iCloud+ with 50 GB is $0.99 a month in US dollar markets.

Extras
: iCloud+ includes iCloud Private Relay.

### ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
: ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.

Apps and scripts
: An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use

Access
: Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.

Approvals
: Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.

CI jobs
: GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.

Revoking
: Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.

History
: A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after

Underneath
: Standard Postgres

Plans
: Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

## Which one should you use?

### Use iCloud Drive when

you use Apple devices and want files, photos and backups to follow you.

- **Built in.** iCloud comes with every Apple account.
- **Photos and backups.** Storage covers photos and device backups.
- **Privacy extras.** iCloud Private Relay with iCloud+.

### Use ADoor when

you want a list that any assistant can read and update, shared with exactly the people who need it.

**Technical**
- A home automation script adds each energy reading to an add-only list through the ADoor API.
- A Cursor agent that manages your personal finances reads Accounts and asks before editing.
- A Cursor agent reads your Projects list on a Windows laptop, the same list you update from your iPhone.

**Personal**
- Your kid's allergies, doctor and medication, shared with the grandparents, who can read it on an Android phone too.
- A packing list per trip type, so you ask ChatGPT what to pack for a ski weekend.

**Team**
- A small office shares a Supplies list where everyone adds and only the office manager orders.
- A history of changes shows who added what.
- A choir keeps a Music list: members read, the librarian edits, and the history of changes shows who took which copy.

**Business**
- A family business keeps customers in one list, and the part-time bookkeeper sees only Invoices.
- A contractor's access is revoked when they finish, and their entries stay.
- A dental practice's receptionists add appointments but never see Treatment notes.
