# ADoor vs Evernote

Evernote is a note app for notes, web clippings and documents. ADoor, your data account, keeps structured records, with fields you can sort and query, that you, your team and assistants like ChatGPT read and change with their own access.

## Where ADoor stands out

### Records with fields

Evernote stores notes. In ADoor, an assistant like ChatGPT creates a list with the fields you describe, and you can count and query it in SQL.

### MCP on every plan

Evernote's MCP server is in beta and needs a paid plan. ADoor's MCP server is on the free plan too.

### Access per field

In ADoor you can share a list without one field, or let someone add but not delete.

## The products

### Evernote

Evernote keeps notes, clippings and documents, with sharing per notebook.

Assistants
: An MCP server at mcp.evernote.com/mcp with OAuth, in beta, for paid plans

Developer API
: The classic API and SDKs are deprecated

Plans
: A free plan and paid plans

### ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
: ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.

Apps and scripts
: An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use

Access
: Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.

Approvals
: Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.

CI jobs
: GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.

Revoking
: Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.

History
: A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after

Underneath
: Standard Postgres

Plans
: Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

## Which one should you use?

### Use Evernote when

you're capturing notes, web pages and documents to find later.

- **Clipping and capture.** Save web pages and documents. ADoor has no file storage.
- **Free-form notes.** Write anything, in any shape.
- **A long archive.** Search years of notes in one place.

### Use ADoor when

the notes have become lists you keep updating, and assistants and other people should help.

**Technical**
- A script adds each customer call summary to an add-only list, and you query them later in SQL.
- A Claude agent reads your Leads list and edits only Next step.
- A Cursor agent reads a Snippets list you keep, and adds new ones, but can't delete any.

**Personal**
- Your child's speech therapy sessions and the exercises set, shared with the therapist.
- Instructions for the house sitter, room by room, which they read on their phone.
- Wine you've tried with ratings and where you bought it, so you ask ChatGPT what to order again.

**Team**
- A small agency shares a Clients list with contacts and status, each account manager editing the clients with their name.
- A history of changes shows who changed each status.

**Business**
- Sales sees deals; only finance sees Margin.
- A freelancer's access is revoked when the project ends.
- A law office keeps matters and deadlines in one list, and paralegals edit only Status.
