# ADoor vs Appwrite

Appwrite is an open-source backend platform for web and mobile apps, in the cloud or self-hosted. ADoor, your data account, keeps the records a team or a company shares with apps and assistants like ChatGPT, each with its own access.

## Where ADoor stands out

### Access per assistant

Appwrite's hosted MCP server signs in with OAuth, and self-hosted setups use a project API key. In ADoor, each assistant gets its own access, down to a field, capped at the person who connected it.

### Approvals

In ADoor, agents ask for more access and you approve or deny, and new devices sign in only after you approve them.

### A history of changes

ADoor keeps a history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after.

## The products

### Appwrite

Appwrite gives app developers auth, databases, storage, functions and hosting.

Assistants
: A hosted MCP server at mcp.appwrite.io with OAuth

Databases
: Serverless by default, or dedicated from $10 a month

Plans
: Free. Pro is $25 a month for the first project, $15 for each extra.

### ADoor

ADoor is your data account. You keep lists and tables in a workspace you own, personal or team: a reading list, an incident log, a list of customers. Describe what you want to keep track of and it's set up for you, with real Postgres underneath. Every person, app, assistant, device and job gets its own access.

Assistants
: ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor connect through MCP with a sign-in.

Apps and scripts
: An HTTP API with keys, running the same actions assistants use

Access
: Per space, list or field, or just the entries where a field equals a value you choose. Reading, adding, editing and deleting entries, and changing a list's fields, are separate permissions. An assistant never gets more than the person who connected it.

Approvals
: Agents ask for more access and you approve or deny. A new device signs in only after you approve it and choose its access.

CI jobs
: GitHub Actions signs in with short-lived access, 15 minutes by default and up to 30 days, with no stored secret.

Revoking
: Takes effect on the next request. What was already saved stays.

History
: A history of changes, with who made each one and the before and after

Underneath
: Standard Postgres

Plans
: Free for 3 tables and 100 rows. Pro is $10 a month per workspace, with 1 GB of storage.

## Which one should you use?

### Use Appwrite when

you're building an app and want auth, storage, functions and hosting in one open-source backend.

- **A whole backend.** Auth, databases, storage, functions and hosting. ADoor has no file storage or app sign-in.
- **Self-hosting.** Run Appwrite on your own infrastructure.
- **Unlimited seats.** Pro includes unlimited seats.

### Use ADoor when

the records are for the team and its assistants, and each needs its own part.

**Technical**
- Your Appwrite app reports failed payments to an add-only list in ADoor, and finance reads it in SQL.
- A GitHub Actions job logs each mobile release with 15 minutes of access.

**Personal**
- Your kids' music practice: minutes per day and what the teacher set. The teacher reads it before lessons.
- A reading list with notes and who recommended each book. You ask ChatGPT for the next one.

**Team**
- Mobile, QA and support share a Crash reports list where support adds and engineers edit.
- New test devices join only after you approve them.
- Designers and developers share a Screens list, and designers edit only Status.

**Business**
- Each app team edits only its entries in a company-wide Release calendar.
- An agency's assistant edits App store copy only, and you revoke it after launch.
